Embedded AAC Tutor in Online Classes

Joan Canty, English Instructor, Craig Johnson, Academic Achievement Center Coordinator, and Denise Brixey, AAC Tutor are piloting an embedded online tutor project this spring semester. Denise Brixey has been a tutor in the Academic Achievement Center for one year and has taken Joan Canty's online English 1A and English 1B classes. She is embedded in Joan's online English 1A class with her own Assignment Drop Box, access to a Chat Room, Email, and Threaded Discussion Area where students can contact her for help and upload assignments for review and feedback. Denise has a voice mail for students to leave messages and is also working on providing audio feedback via the online class.

CONNECTIONS

Vonna Breeze-Martin, Coordinator of the ESL program describes the classes as multi-level, since students attend the classes that fit their schedules - though the students with more English experience are encouraged to attend the classes with a higher level focus if possible. Vonna is looking for classroom volunteers, particularly those with some background in Spanish, (fluency not necessary), to help students move along at their own level and pace in these multi-level classes.  Interested persons could contact Vonna at 588-5274.

The ESL Program has grown from just 6 a little over a year ago to 65 last Spring semester, to 86 this past semester.
